THE KIDDIE LIST

July 10, 2011

In July and August, the distances of the races for two year olds start to lengthen. Precocious pedigrees still rule, but we begin to see the unveiling of juveniles who will eventually prefer running two turns. In the next couple of weeks, Saratoga and Del Mar will open and exciting new prospects will make their appearance. Everyday on this blog from now until the end of the Saratoga and Del Mar meetings, I’ll point out blue blooded babies from my Kiddie List database that are entered to race or have a series of decent works.

ENTERED TODAY (7/10):

CALDER Race 8 Maiden Claiming - LORDSHIP'S FLEET (Stormy Atlantic - My Lordship, by Lord Avie) is a Live Oak Plantation home bred. His dam was a favorite of mine when she was part of Bill Mott's barn a few years ago. She won her maiden at first asking at 7F. She also won stakes races from a mile to 1 1/6 miles over dirt and turf and was graded stakes placed. Lordship Fleet is her first foal. Additionally, Lordship's Fleet has a Rasmussen inbreeding (inbred to a blue hen within 5 gen.) to Somethingroyal. If you have $40K, this could be a worthwhile claim.

ON THE WORK TAB (7/10):

STOPSHOPPINGMARIA (More Than Ready - Skybox, by Spend a Buck) has been working since May at Saratoga. Today she breezed 4F in :49.93 (15/20) over the training track. We'll likely see her sooner rather than later in the upcoming meet. The Pletcher trainee is a half sis to two listed stakes winners and a stakes placed runner. Her stakes placed dam is a half sister to G1 winning turf sire Perfect Soul. She's also a half sister to the grand-dam of G1 winning 1st crop sire Flashy Bull. The second dam is a stakes winner.
CORAL GLADE (Unbridled's Song - Jessamy Lane, by Hennessy) has a spectacular female family, as she descends from the direct distaff line as A.P. Indy and Summer Squall.  Her dam went 0 -2 in her career, but she's a half sister to stakes winner Mambo in Seattle. Coral Glade's third dam is the blue hen Weekend Surprise, the dam of sires A.P. Indy & Summer Squall. Fourth dam is blue hen Lassie Dear, and fifth dam is blue hen Gay Missile. Coral glade worked 5F for the first time today and was timed in 1:03.32 (10/14) over the Saratoga training track.

EL PADRINO (Pulpit - Enchanted Rock, by Giant's Causeway) worked a bullet 5F in 1:01.19, over the deep Saratoga training track. He's the first foal for his dam who was unplaced in her sole start.  His distaff family is sprinkled with stakes winners. His dam is a half to the dams of G3 sprinter/miler Soaring Empire, Bowling Green (11FT) hero Al Khali, Go For Wand (G1) winner Serra Lake and the grand-dam of Salvador Mile winner Coal Play. El Padrino's second dam Chic Shrine won the G1 Ashland and his third dam Too Chic gave us the Champion older mare Queena, dam of G1 winning sire Brahms & G2 winner LaReina. El Padrino could be adept over dirt or turf, but he has the notable turf influences of Giant's Causeway and Blushing Groom (third damsire) in his distaff line.
CURRENT AQUASITION (Stormy Atlantic - Grand Merger, by A.P. Indy) had his first breeze from the Belmont gate, getting 4F in :15.19 (61/67). He had a :48.27 (2/18) work last week. Current Aquasition is the first foal for his dam, a Maid of the Mist stakes winner. She’s a full sister to the major sire Stephen Got Even.
DOUBLE CROSSING (Cape Cross (IRE) - Two Clubs (GB), by First Trump (GB)) breezed 4F in 48.60 (11/59) over the Arlington Polytrack. He’s had three gate works. The last one was on July 3, when he went 4F in :48.40 (7/55). Double Crossing is a half brother to the European Champion Sprinter Red Clubs. His dam is an English stakes winner. Double Crossing has the breeding of a sprinter/miler. His sire was a top miler in England, taking the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes and the Queen Anne (G2). Double Crossing’s damsire was a multiple group winning sprinter and includes the Middle Park Stakes in his resume.
MARGANO (Dynaformer - La Ville Rouge, by Carson City) is a full brother to Kentucky Derby Champ Barbaro. Margano worked 4F at Belmont in :48.75 (10/67). Margano’s full brothers Nicanor and Lentenor and half brother Holy Ground weren’t very precocious, but developed their talent in their third and fourth years of racing.
MY BEST BROTHER (Stormy Atlantic - Wilshewed, by Carson City) is a full brother to recently deceased Hollywood Futurity winner and sire Stormello.  This one has been working since May at Hollywood Park. He blazed a :47.80 4F (2/24) at Hollywood for Julio Canani, so you can bet he'll come out running when he enters the starting gate for the first time.
GROOVIN' SOLO (Bob and John - Squall Linda, by Summer Squall) has posted three consecutive bullets over the Santa Anita dirt. He’s a half brother to Norfolk Stakes (G1) winner Street Hero and Hollywood Futurity champ Premier Pegasus.
