THE KIDDIE LIST

Tomorrow and Thursday we get a glimpse of the future. Well-bred maidens at Belmont and Monmouth Park start their careers with an eye towards future stakes races. Perhaps we’ll catch a superstar in the making.

Belmont, Race 5, MSW 5F, Fillies

Ruby Lips (Hard Spun - Its a Ruby, by Rubiano) She’s a half sister to juvenile stakes winner Win and Reign, plus the two year old stakes placed runners Cool Gator and Like A Gem. The latter is the dam of juvenile stakes winner Hard Not To Like, who is by Hard Spun.

Minx (Tapit - Rutledge Affair, by Colonial Affair) She’s a half sister to juvenile stakes winner Colonel Rutledge and Rutledge Cat, who placed in the Laurel Futurity at two. With Belmont Stakes winner Colonial Affiar, Triple Crown hero Affirmed and the great HOY Sir Ivor as her first three broodmare sires, the pretty gray Minx will likely prefer running two turns.

Native One (Indian Charlie - Lady Diplomat, by Silver Deputy) She’s a half sister to Astoria Stakes heroine Glacken’s Gal and stakes winner Banker’s Buy. Their dam is a stakes placed juvenile and the second dam is also a stakes winner.

Form Fitting (Tapit - Fashion Girl, by Tactical Cat) this pretty gray filly is a half sister to Colin Stakes placed The Bear Vow. Their dam won the Colleen at two and she’s a half sister to Norfolk (G-1) champ Shepherd’s Field.

Distortion (Distorted Humor - Misty Rosette, by Stormin Fever) her dam won the Sandpiper Stakes at two and the Old Hat (G-3) at three.

Dixiluna (Dixie Union - Dundrummin', by Gone West) her dam is an unraced full sister to the sire Proud Citizen, who placed in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Dixiluna has Rasmussen Factor inbreeding to Natalma through Dixie Union’s second tail sire (grandpa on dad’s side) Northern Dancer and his full sister Arctic Dancer, who is Dixiluna’s fourth dam.

Sweet N Discreet (Discreet Cat - West Side Dancer, by Gone West) She’s a full sister to Discreet Dancer, who placed in last year’s Fountain of Youth. Their half brother Travelin Man won the Swale Stakes (G-2). This distaff branch has produced Saratoga Special winner Bite the Bullet and European Champion Older Mare Duke of Marmalade. The fourth dam is blue hen Lassie Dear, grand-dam of A.P. Indy, Summer Squall, Lemon Drop Kid, etc.

 

Monmouth Park Race 5 MSW 5F, Fillies

Indy's Magic Money (Broken Vow - She's Indy Money, by A.P. Indy) she’s the first foal out of her dam, who was stakes placed at two and won the Ontario Matron at three. The second dam Nanny’s Sweep won the G-1 Santa Monica Handicap and the third dam was a multiple stakes winner and Calder favorite.

Sailinginforthewin ( Mizzen Mast - Lemon Maid, by Lemon Drop Kid) Race Record: 1-0-1-0 ($8,000). Her dam is a G-3 winning sprinter and the second dam is also a g-3 winner.

Insolvent (Big Brown - Refrain, by Unbridled's Song) her half-sister Girlfriendontheside won her debut and placed in the Astoria and Schuylerville Stakes at two. The second dam Inlaw was also a juvenile stakes winner.

Pink Traffic (More Than Ready - Stoneway, by Storm Boot) she’s a full sister to juvenile stakes placed Caminadora, who won the Regret (G-3) at three. Their dam was a listed stakes winner.

Back to Class (Montbrook - Cut Class Leanne, by Cutlass) Race Record: 1-0-0-0 ($2,700). She’s a full sister to the brilliant juvenile and precocious sire Chapel Royal (Sanford & Flash winner, BC Juvenile placed, etc.). Her other full and half siblings haven’t done much on the track and have no notable blacktype.

I Am Discreet (Discreet Cat - Silk Concorde, by Concorde's Tune) her dam was a precocious sort, winning the Susan’s Girl Stakes and placing in the two other legs of the FL Stallion Stakes series for juveniles. This is the distaff family of Preakness hero Louis Quatorze, G-1 winning top FL sire Wildcat Heir and the popular stakes winning veteran Awesome Gem.

Entrada ( Mineshaft - Dance On the Green, by Green Dancer) she’s a half sister to the popular stakes winning veteran Formal Miss, stakes winner Gold Pirate and two juvenile stakes placed runners.

Belmont Park Race 6, MSW 6F (Inner Turf)

Horsepower (Bernardini - Moroccan Rose, by Carson City) (C) $420K KEESEP’11. Mentioned in the June 5 Kiddie List. This colt has a precocious distaff family, but he should handle two turns without difficulty. His dam won her debut and placed in a stakes race. His second dam Rose of Wendover was a MSW and won a juvenile stakes race. There’s some quality in this family. Trained by Steve Asmussen for Fox Hill Farm, Horsepower should be one to watch at the upcoming Saratoga meet.

Bye Bye Bernie (Bernstein - Eternal Grace, by Gilded Time) (C) His half sister won in her second start and their dam placed in the Sorority Stakes. The second dam won the Forward Gal Stakes at two.

Redwood Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Chianti Red, by Woodman) (C) He’s a full brother to juvenile stakes winner Lisa’s Kitten and stakes winner Artemus Kitten.

Pallasus (Tapit - Midday Runner, by Real Quiet) (C) Two of his four half-siblings placed in their debut. Their dam is an unraced half sister to Travers hero and sire Ten Most Wanted.

Qeyaas (Haafhd (GB) - Shawahid, by A.P. Indy) (C) He has Rasmussen Factor breeding to the Champion Filly and blue hen Height of Fashion through her son Unfuwain (Haafhd’s second sire) and Height of Fashion is Qeyass’ third dam. Qeyaas’ dam is an unraced half sister to 1000 Guineas & Coronation Stakes (ENG-G1) winner Ghanaati. This is the family of Champion Turf Mare Lahdood, as well as prominent sire Nashwan, Nayef, Unfuwain and Mukddaam.

Gladhander (Congrats - K. D.'s Shady Lady, by Maria's Mon) (C) He’s a half brother to two juvenile stakes winners and their dam is G-3 stakes placed.

Copper Beeches (Big Brown - York Woods, by Mining) (C) He’s a half brother to multiple graded stakes winner Middlesex Drive, who placed in his debut. Their dam won her debut and is a stakes placed juvenile.

Lemon Drop Dream (Lemon Drop Kid - Dreamlike, by Storm Cat) (C) He’s a half brother to the multiple G-3 winner Denomination. Their unraced dam is the Champion Turf Mare Flawlessly. This is the direct female family of the blue hen Cosmah and her dam, the influential blue hen Natalma, dam of Northern Dancer.

Irish Surf (Giant’s Causeway – Surfside, by Seattle Slew) (C) 6F 1:15.80 (2/3). He’s a full brother to Giant Surf, a Russian G-3 winner and to Shark, a multiple stakes placed turf sprinter. Their dam and second dam Flanders are Champion fillies and the fourth dam Cinegita is a blue hen.

Endless Chatter (First Samurai - Orate, by A.P. Indy) (F) 4F :51.22 (13/15). This Claiborne Farm-bred filly;s half sister Star Presence has a nice 11-2-4-1 record as an optional claimer. Their dam is a full sister to the multiple G-2 winner and prominent sire Pulpit. A full sister produced the stakes winner Nunnery. Second dam Preach won the Frizette S. (G-1) at two and the third dam Narrate was also a stakes winner and blue hen.

Soulsinging (Unbridled's Song - Ticket to Seattle, by Capote) (C) $200K KEESEP2011. 4F :49.73 (7/15). He’s the first foal for his dam, a stakes winning sprinter. She’s a half sister to Met Mile and Whitney hero Tizway.

Brilliant Jewel (A.P. Indy - Sapphire n' Silk, by Pleasant Tap) (F) $400K KEESEP2011. 4F :51.03 (50/66). She’s a full sister to Kentucky Cup Classic S. (G-2,9F) hero and sire Shaniko and a half sister to the stakes horses Silky Smooth and Miner’s Claim. Their dam is a multiple graded stakes winner and half sister to Affirmed H (G-3) winner Golden Itiz and to Silk N Sapphire, dam of BC F&M Turf heroine Shared Account.

Emollient (Empire Maker - Soothing Touch, by Touch Gold) (F) 4F :50.90 (44/66). Juddmonte –bred filly is the first foal out of her dam. Soothing Touch went 0-6. She’s a daughter of French listed winner Gila. The third dam Coup de Genie was Champion 2YO Filly in France and produced Denebola, also a French Juvenile Champ, plus she’s the grand-dam of French Champion Juvenile and Arc hero Bago. Fourth dam Coup de Folie is a blue hen and the dam of the influential sire Machiavellian. Emollient will likely find her best stride over turf as a late juvenile or three year old.

Gustavia ( Pulpit - Summer Rainbow, by Summer Squall) (F) 4F :51.00 (47/66). She’s a half sister to Inside Information Stakes winner Hard Mystery. This is the distaff family of San Rafael Stakes (G-3) hero The Pamplemoose and Hollywood Futurity (G-1) Champ Stormello.

Magnificent Shirl (Heatseaker – Fantastic Shirl, by Fantastic Light) (F) 4F :51.11 (23/33). A daughter of first crop sire Heatseeker (by Giant’s Causeway), this filly may be at her best going long over turf. She’s a half sister to Fantastic Song, who placed in the Pilgrim (G-3, 8.5FT) as a juvenile. Their dam was a stakes winning turf miler and is a half sister to last year’s BC F&M Turf heroine Perfect Shirl, multiple G-1 wining sire Shakespeare, and his full sister graded stakes winner Lady Shakespeare. The second dam Lady Shirl won multiple stakes, including the Flower Bowl (G-1).

Python (EmpireMaker – Escena, by Strawberry Road) (C) $320K KEESEP2011. 4F :52.11 (30/33). He’s a half brother to the stakes placed turf horse Indy Scent (a personal favorite). Their dam won the 1998 BC Distaff in a thrilling finish over Banshee Breeze to be named Champion Older Mare.

Love your write-ups. I have noticed a big upswing in the Discreet Cat progeny wins of late. It will be interesting to see how Insolvent does. Big Brown's first maiden winner in the US looked nice winning and I also noticed very interesting facial markings. Big Brown himself had that interesting spot of white on his barrel and I'm curious if he'll pass unusual markings along.

BB's offspring should be mid to late season runners, so we'll start to see them appear more often. So far he has 3 starters, 2 winners. I'll pay close attention to any baby with BB's white spot! Look for his pedigree profile this weekend on Horse Racing Nation.
