HOT BABIES AT DEL MAR

fiery-horse

The offspring of first crop sires Majestic Warrior, Street Boss and Street Hero are in the spotlight this weekend at Del Mar. Dry Summer, Forest Boy and Buckleberry Gray were mentioned on previous Kiddie Lists. On Sunday, watch for a daughter of Smart Strike.

CAMEO APPEARANCE (Majestic Warrior - Sweet Beat, by Tiznow) (C) will no doubt want to go longer, but this Baffert trainee has to start somewhere. By Hopeful Stakes (G-1) winner and first crop sire Majestic Warrior, Cameo Appearance is a half brother to the stakes placed Fire Alarm (by Fusaichi Pegasus). Their dam is a full sister to the Grade 3 winner Kitty in a Tizzy. There’s some class in this female family. The third dam Potridee is an Argentinian Champion and a G-1 winner in the US. He’s a homebred for the Gary & Mary West Stable.

URGENT MATTER (Street Hero - Capotes Cielo, by Capote) by first crop sire Street Hero, this colt is bred to be precocious. His half sister by Silent Name was 3rd in her debut at Del Mar, then won there a couple weeks later. Street Hero has 2 winners from 7 starters. His son Gabriel Charles won a nose decision over the Del Mar poly last Saturday.

BUCKLEBERRY GREY (Unbridled's Song - Elusive Diva, by Elusive Quality) (C) $125K BARMAR 2012. His half-brother by Bernardini won at first asking, but didn’t live up to his pedigree, as he’s currently competing in claiming races at Canterbury. Their dam retired with a 14-6-3-4 ($484,510) record. As a three year old she won the Railbird (G-3) and placed in the Hollywood Oaks (G-2) and La Brea (G-1). At four, she evolved into a G-3 turf stakes sprinter.

DRY SUMMER (Any Given Saturday - Greenstreet, by Street Cry) (C) $120K OBSAPR 2012. This ridgling is the first foal out of his stakes winning dam. Greenstreet won a listed stakes at 1 1/6 miles over the dirt. She’s a half-sister to the stakes winning veteran Seattlespectacular. Coaching Club American Oaks heroine Funny Moon and the multiple graded stakes winner Vanlandingham are part of this distaff family. Dry Summer should be proficient up to middle distances but better over dirt or turf rather than Polytrack.

FOREST BOY (Forestry - Belvedere Miss, by Pleasant Colony) (C) $270K OBSMAR 2012. Forest Boy breezed a furlong in :10.00 at the OBS Select two year old in training sale. One of his two half sisters have started and she’s 0 for 4. Their dam won her second start and was an allowance class dirt miler. Belvedere Miss is a half sister to Hollywood Starlet (G-1) heroine Diplomat Lady, who is by Forestry. Another half sister Dream Play is a G-3 winner. The second dam Playcaller won three listed stakes and forest boy’s third and fourth dams are also stakes winners. Forest Boy has 3 x 2 inbreeding to Kentucky Derby hero Pleasant Colony, indicating that he may prefer running longer distances than the typical progeny of Forestry.

TITLE CONTENDER (Pulpit – Winter Garden, by Roy) (C) $310K KEENOV 2010. This son of Pulpit is out of a multiple G-3 sprinter. None of his half siblings have lived up to their breeding so far. The Baffert trainee’s third dam is Canadian Champion Two Year Old Filly Phoenix Factor.

POWER BROKER (Pulpit - Shop Again, by Wild Again) (C) $360K EESEP2011. His dam needed 13 starts to win her maiden, but placed third in her first three starts. She eventually won a listed stakes. Shop again is a half-sister to Personal Ensign (G1) heroine and G-2 winner Trappe Shot, plus two other stakes horses.

On Sunday, watch for SCARLET STRIKE (Smart Strike – Scarlet Tango, by French Deputy) in race 3 at Del Mar. She’s a half sister to King’s Bishop (G-1) hero Visionaire.
