The summer racing season is upon us. Del Mar and Saratoga have held their opening weekends. The race distances are lengthening and the less precious juveniles being unwrapped like Christmas presents.
Every day on this blog from now until the end of the Saratoga and Del Mar meetings, I’ll point out blue blooded babies from my Kiddie List database that are entered to race or have a series of decent works.
Most two year olds will be mentioned only once or twice, but you can keep track of these babies through free virtual stable email notification systems at:
Equibase (http://www.equibase.com/index.cfm)
or DRF (http://www.drf.com).
Entered Wednesday 8/3/11:
Saratoga | Race 2 | 5F | MSW 2 YO
One Slick Dude (Corinthian - Easabeau Fille, by Capote) he is a half brother to a juvenile stakes placed runner. His dam is a half to BC Juvenile winner Minister Eric and to the dam of multiple G1 winning heroine Devil May Care and her half brother UAE Derby winner Regal Ransom.
Manx (English Channel - Supreme Council, by Rahy) he was eighth in a 5F turf race at Churchill in June. He’s the first foal for his dam. She went 0 – 11 but is a half sister to Remsen hero Saarland. The second dam is the great Versailles Treaty, heroine of the G1 contests Alabama, Gazelle, and Test.
Backnbiz (First Samurai - Lady Fu Peg, by Fusaichi Pegasus) he was sixth in a msw at Belmont in July. He’s the second colt produced by his dam. His half brother was unplaced in his only start this winter at Gulfstream and hasn’t worked since. Their dam went 0 for 4. She’s a half sister to Kentucky Oaks heroine Keeper Hill, G2 winner Golden Gear and stakes placed Chasm.
Al Mudeer (Malibu Moon - Getaway Girl, by Silver Deputy) So far, this branch of his distaff family is less than stellar. One half sibling (by Giant’s Causeway) has won 2 of 8 tries, while another (by Tale of the Cat) won once in 5 attempts. Considering that his dam is a half sister to top sire City Zip and Horse of the Year Ghostzapper, this is a disappointment. Maybe Al Mudeer will be the elusive stakes winner.
